Short Term Care
Short-term care insurance policies offer benefits for many different types of health care and aging needs. They generally are purchased by older individuals (ages 50 to 89) as an alternative to traditional long-term care insurance protection. Short-term care insurance policies are designed to provide benefits for up to 360 days, therefore the premiums are usually much lower as well.
WHAT CAN POLICIES COVER?
Short-term care insurance policies can vary in terms of what they cover as well as coverage limits. But, in general, these policies will cover: Home Health Care, Assisted Living Facility Costs, Skilled Nursing Home Stays as well as Adult Day Care/Hospice Care. Some plans will pay for home health care aides, general and skilled nursing care and may even offer prescription drug benefits and other options.
In order to qualify for most short term care benefits, your health care practitioner must certify you as having the inability to perform at least two of six activities of daily living, or as having a cognitive impairment.
